How the total is built

A DECORP residential bill is the sum of several groups of charges. The largest is usually generation — the cost of the electricity itself. After that come transmission (moving power across the national grid), ancillary service (reserve services that keep the grid stable), system loss, distribution (DECORP's own delivery charge), government taxes, and universal charges mandated by law. Each is calculated per kilowatt-hour or as a fixed amount, then added together. Most of your bill is made up of costs DECORP passes through from other providers, not charges DECORP sets on its own.

The biggest single charge

The generation charge

Generation is the cost of producing the electricity you used, and it is usually the largest single part of your bill. DECORP buys electricity from power suppliers and passes that cost through to you. Because it's a pass-through cost, the generation charge can differ from one month to the next depending on what power costs during that billing period. When your total bill changes even though your usage stayed about the same, the generation charge is the most common reason.

Only above 650 kWh

Energy tax (Batas Pambansa Blg. 36)

Unlike the other charges on your bill, this one is marginal: only the kWh falling inside each band are charged that band's rate. Below the first threshold it does not appear on the bill at all.
