How it adds up
How the total is built
A PRESCO residential bill is the sum of several groups of charges. The largest is usually generation — the cost of the electricity itself. After that come transmission (moving power across the national grid), ancillary service (reserve capacity that keeps the grid stable), system loss, distribution (PRESCO's own delivery charge), subsidies, and universal charges mandated by law. Each is calculated per kilowatt-hour or as a fixed amount, then added together. Most of your bill is made up of costs PRESCO passes through from power suppliers and the grid operator, not charges PRESCO sets on its own.

Why there's no Local Franchise Tax on your bill
PRESCO is a member-owned electric cooperative, not a private company operating under a local government franchise. That's why a PRESCO bill has no Local Franchise Tax line, and this calculator doesn't add one.

The biggest single charge
The generation charge
Generation is the cost of producing the electricity you used, and it is usually the largest single part of your bill. PRESCO buys electricity from power suppliers and passes that cost through to you. Because it's a pass-through cost, the generation charge can differ from one month to the next depending on what power costs during that billing period. When your total bill changes even though your usage stayed about the same, the generation charge is the most common reason.

How PRESCO shows VAT
PRESCO itemizes value-added tax across several components — you'll see separate VAT lines for generation, transmission (which also covers ancillary service, where that charge applies), and system loss, plus one combined VAT line for distribution, rather than a single lump sum. The total tax you pay is the sum of these lines.

Pampanga Rural Electric Service Cooperative, Inc. (PRESCO) is the distribution utility for 34 barangays across the municipalities of Mexico, Arayat, Sta. Ana, and Magalang, all in Pampanga. If you live outside this franchise area, your electricity is likely provided by a different utility, and this calculator's PRESCO rates will not match your bill. Check the utility name printed on your own bill to be sure.
